HTTP Referrer not valid error is back again

Hi,

A while back you kindly adjusted our url to fix the "HTTP Referrer not valid" error.
The site has worked ok for a month but now most users are reporting the error again.
I can't see a pattern to it.
On some machines its ok in Chrome but not Firefox.
It would be so good if this issue could be permanently resolved.

Hi Steve,

Please can you let me have the URL(s) for your website. I can check they're registered correctly and we can check that the code is calling them correctly.

Thanks

Hi 'hobittual'

I have had a look at your API Key and it all looks ok, I have added http://youarehavinagiraffe.org to your key to ensure this is not the cause of your issue. Could you please try again and if the problem continues we will need access to your source code on your site to try and figure out why you are getting this error.

Many thanks

Thanks for this.
I'm afraid we still get the message.

Out of a survey of 65 users, 40 get the message and no map appears. With the other 25 its fine.
It always works on localhost with development, the problem just happens on the live server.

Could there be a problem with using openspace in an iframe ?

It doesn't seem to be linked to browser. Weve tested in IE,FF,Chrome,Safari. Its just particular machines. And some of these machine have been able to connect in the past.

Here is a link to a demo - http://herwales.co.uk/reader/app/ (then click the OS icon at the bottom of the window)

Could you take a look and tel me if it works from your location.

Thanks

I think I have found a pattern.

It seems to work when users use the url in the form

http://www.herwales.co.uk/reader/app

But not

http://herwales.co.uk/reader/app/
or
www.herwales.co.uk/reader/app/

The workaround is to always access the site via a referring page which uses the full url

eg for PHP

<?php
header ("Location: http://www.herwales.co.uk/reader/app");
?>

Hi zanzibarneon,

This is a strange one, I have checked your API Key and added the full url http://herwales.co.uk/reader/app/ but still when I click on this link I also receive the http referrer error.

OS OpenSpace is developed to work as an iframe and this should not be causing any issues, I think it would be better if you could email me a copy of your code so we can take a look and see if we can find out what is causing the referrer error? The email address that you need is osopenspace@ordnancesurvey.co.uk and mark it for my attention.

Kind regards

Thanks for checking it out Tamsyn.

The workaround of accessing the site through a referring page which means its always accessed with the full url seems to be working well.

I think the problem came about because the latest browsers let you be lazy about urls and so many users don't bother with the "http://www." part. The browser guesses it's a url (and not a search term) and adds the "http://" but not the "www".

For this reason Bing & Google let you specify all forms of the url or a wildcard (*herwales.co.uk).

Anyway OpenSpace rocks.
The OS map sets are a work of art.
